August 23, 2003 : sleeping on old foam

Eva has only just gotten out of bed. It's 11 in the morning, and we should have gotten up at 9 (when the alarm first went off) but instead we napped and visited until I got up around 10ish and Eva 11ish. In bed we even decided to go out and buy a new mattress today. What the hell, right? Splurge. Just go out there and get something cheap but decent. Something around 200 Euro...

I'm definitely for buying a new mattress, but not for spending the money. I mean, I know how sensitive money issues are at the moment...they are just always right below the surface waiting to rear it's nasy little 1 Euro coin head...or even worse, the 2 and one cent-ers....

So eventually (perhaps next week) we'll make that big plunge and buy it. I'm waiting to finish a couple of projects so we can afford it, but now we've narrowed it down to one project...when it's over, we sleep like babies. We'll most likely sleep for days on end when we first get it. We'll at least have a bon-fire with the old one, which was already old when we got it 2 years ago, and probably already used when Eva's mother got it for Joris's bed 20 years ago. Let's face it, it's seen enough bottoms, backs, legs and elbows. Burn baby, burn.

So today we have a bit on our list of "things to do."
- go to market
- take Eva's glasses in to have fixed
- have breakfast
- Eva has to write an article for De Magneet

Well that's not everything, but that's a couple of hours worth. And as I've sat here typing, she's attempted to catch up with me and my "readiness."
I've got on my "Summer in Nashville, some ain't" shirt and Eva's just putting on her "The media is not fooling me" Righteous Babes shirt. I'd say we're ready for a day on the town. Too bad it's overcast and looks a bit chilly, our cool shirts under our sweaters.

More later, perhaps...

IN THE NEWS:
Alabama's chief justice has been suspended for refusing to obey a federal court order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the state judicial building.
