September 15, 2003 : cats.

Well we've got a new cat. Just like that. One day we've got just "each other" and the next day we have a guest!

Yesterday I was on the way to Brugge to pick up Eva from her European weekend and as I was pulling into the Total Fina (gas station along the highway) I saw a little furball sitting in one of the parking places. Immediately I parked and started my 20 minute effort to coax her out of the urine-smelling bushes. (truckers toilet)

A whole bus-load of Dutch travellers came by to try to help me with the kitten (black, a spitting image of Kola when he was a kitten) and though they helped me (my time was running low, as my coaxing verbage of "do you want to live in Antwerp with us? and spreek je nederlands? wasn't doing much good) One of the kids suggested that I get a sandwhich and see if any of the meaty goods would help me get the kitty. We sure thing. As soon as the Dutch people left (obviously a terrified flemish speaking kitten!) out came the kitten.

I drove all the way to Brugge with an overly excited kitten on my lap. It was hard to change gears along the way, and after a long line of cars, I made it to Eva...who was, needless to say, thrilled (literally) with the new addition to our family.

The kitten has been named Violet. And the reason is "violet is between dispair and red" the dispair is eva-personal (non-me related!) and red because lil violet was scared of me when I towered over her in my red shirt. :)

Who could dump this sweet little kitten, I don't know. She immediately climbs into our lap when we sit down...and sleeps on our necks and heads during the night. She's absolutely lovely. She even poos in a box!

Needless to say, we're happy with her and she's happy with us. Even as I type she's sleeping on my boobs (ha ha ha) and if she wasn't sleeping she'd by trying to catch my typing fingers.

IN THE NEWS:
The WUSA (women's professional soccer association) shut down operations five days before the Women's World Cup, saying it didn't have enough money to stay in business for a fourth season. The decision was made by the league's board of governors Monday at a meeting in New York. The Atlanta-based league planned an announcement later in the day.
